Why the Indian Culture Deserves More Recognition Than Ever
The Indian culture is a reflection and a celebration of our 7-thousand-year-old civilization. This civilization has been home to countless historical occasions that have shaped our culture and the way we lead our lives. But centuries of foreign rule and colonisation, multiplied by decades of ignorance from our own end, had overshadowed the presence of our great culture. However, there has been a strong awakening among Indians towards their culture over the last decade, which is clearly visible in public sentiments today. However, we still have miles to cover before we can truly recognise the teachings of our ancient wisdom. Let us understand a few reasons why the Indian culture deserves more recognition than ever.
Living example of how we can thrive in a diversity of cultures
The diversity in India culture is often described by many as ‘Unity in Diversity.’ But its depth is much more than just a phrase, as we can see that India has not only been a home to so many cultures, but its people have also thrived in this diversity by truly embracing, learning and acquiring the values of all these cultures. Today, Indians from all around the country travel to places like Kedarnath, Tirpathi and other cultural heritages located in various states to become rooted in their own rich culture and ancient teachings. Economically as well, it showcases the strength and unison as Indians themselves contribute a big share of India’s tourism economy. This is a living testament to the world of how humans can flourish in all walks of life, even with the presence of various cultures and other differences.
The timeless wisdom of our ancient literature
As I mentioned earlier, our biggest mistake was ignoring the sheer greatness of our own culture and the invaluable teachings of Hindu literature. The Vedas and Upanishads show the way humans can lead society and prosper in unison. The teachings of Acharya Chanakya, which were also written in ancient times, are relevant even today – at both personal and social levels. The success and prosperity of society directly depend on how we educate ourselves and our children. It is high time that we acquire and then spread awareness about these iconic teachings of our own culture for a better tomorrow. Several books depicting the limitless wisdom of the Indian culture are available today; we have to make sure that we try to read as many of them as possible. In addition to this, making movies and other cinema content of our literature will also be a great stride in giving more recognition to our culture.
How we present our culture will paint India’s image
We all remember how there was once a time when India was only presented as a country of snake charmers and poverty where people died due to starvation. While we cannot deny that India has indeed faced poverty for a couple of centuries due to colonisation, we should have also presented the other facets of our nation which highlight the vastness and depth of our culture. But it is never too late to learn from one’s own mistakes. It is high time that we show the world the glorious side of India, spreading the positive and profound teachings of the Indian culture through social media, cinema, and other platforms. How we view ourselves will determine how the rest of the world sees us, and now that the eyes of people around the globe are on us, we must present the Indian culture as an infinite ocean of wisdom that it is with absolute pride!
